Wow it’s been 10 months.

I have a part-time position with a former employer which although is not the best solution it is however a solution which may reap the reward of a full-time position! Went direct and found that I am “eligible” for rehire at my former work place which is a positive note because in today’s marketplace that is a question asked by many employers. Was given extenstion to unemployment but at this point in time they are sending me a letter of eligibility which has never arrived! Still searching, applying, networking, etc. in an attempt to find F/T work. All the best.

Giving up

I have now been unemployed for over six months. There will not be any unemployment extension so I’m going the way of the part-timer. I probably will have to give up my COBRA and my wife’s insurance will be exorbitant as well so I’ll probably just not get health insurance until I get (hopefully) a F/T job. Yes, Giving up has crossed my mind and I actually wanted to just sit down but I will keep moving the shark in me won’t let me give up. This is absolutely one of the worst times in my life and I’m sure I’m not alone. Misery is misery whether alone or in a group. Hope you’re doing well.

6 month anniversary

Well yesterday was my six month anniversary being unemployed. I have been using all the different methods I know and have been instructed to for looking for gainful employment. Still keeping positive thoughts and hope it’s not another six months. I wish you all the best.

Keeping the faith

You know you have many ups and downs while searching for a new career. It is depressing and it does get to be maddening at times and I think you need to address it upfront. Get it off you mind so you can retain focus because in reality things will change and opportunities will bloom. It may just take time and you have to resolve yourself to keep working through thick and thin until you’ve met your goal. Keep the faith!

Will human’s become outdated?

It is now predicted that by 2014 a $1000 computer will be able to compute as much or more than a human brain can humanly function.

Around 2014 college students entering their third year of school will already be learning outdated material. I predict that by 2028 people will have become outdated. We will not be able to keep up with the creations of our creation. We will have to allow computers to control other computers. We will not have the ability to comprehend what our computers are producing and what in future computers will keep them from controlling our destiny’s? It will be like the Collossus: The Forbin Project movie … we are rapidly approaching that time. Which makes me think .. “teach your computers well their humans health will slowly go by..” sorry CSNY. Very strange world approaching be aware that the future changes will be spectacular and possibly amazing but also scary at the same time.

Well, here’s a little and free five point test to understand why:

Print out the first page of your CV/Resume – no need for the rest of it
Fold it in half along the long side of the A4 sheet of paper. Now tear it in half, so you have two separate pieces of paper for the top and bottom halves
Take the advert for the job you are applying for, and using a highlighter pen mark out the key skill requirements – no more than five, if in doubt the first five they list
Take the top half of the first page of your CV/Resume (much like the rest of it – no need for the bottom half) and using the advert as a template, find the same five skills in the top half page of your CV/Resume
Now see if you can find your name, telephone number and eMail address on the same marked top half

I added it to my sidebar but wanted to add a post as well regarding www.linkup.com . This site is very easy to use and is a great compiler. When you find a job it will put it as a tab so you can continue searching and get back to your choices after reviewing your selections.

Something to remember when writing your resume`. You’re writing it for a computer! Well it’s going to be OCR’d and Human Resource personnel will be asking the computer to find keywords within your document.

Knowing this you should use a font that is conducive for OCR and after doing a bit of research Courier seems to be the best but Arial or Times are acceptable. If you really wanted to get down to the best you could download OCR-B Fonts that are superior for OCR.

If you visit your state’s unemployment website you might find other Career Fairs that you might miss if you only surf at monster or yahoo job sites.
